Moving through themes of embodiment, materials, sketching practices, gesture, and form, we’ll examine the interweaving of creative intuition with technical wisdom. A special focus will be placed on narrative and composition: dissecting the anatomy of myth, and exploring the parallels between gesture, movement, and storytelling.
The series consists of three two-hour sessions over three weeks, with an optional extended critique component for those seeking deeper feedback and dialogue.
*For those who can’t make all sessions, recordings of the classes will be available for rewatch.
Figure and Flow: Paris, France
May 1-3, 2026

Friday, Saturday, Sunday
10:00 - 16:00 CEST
Rooted in classical draftsmanship, this workshop explores gesture, dynamic observation of form, shadow architecture, and the organization of light and dark while mapping the proportions of the figure. Drawing from the 19th-century French atelier lineage of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and the École des Beaux-Arts, we emphasize anatomy, composition, and disciplined seeing. This tradition is woven into a contemporary embodied practice — integrating somatics, cross-disciplinary dialogue, and neuro-informed insight into flow state

Figure Drawing Intensive Weekend Workshop
In this 3-day intensive workshop, students will explore a fusion of classical and contemporary approaches. The focus will be on capturing gesture, expressing anatomical structure, and suggesting volume through expressive line and tone. Beyond close observation of the human form, students will learn to honor the energetic signature of the subject and the body’s inherent gesture.

Tradition and Transformation Part 2:
Exploring the atelier system in 19th century France with Celia Liberace and Rob Liberace
Drawing from her experience at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Celia Liberace will guide participants through the timeless principles and techniques that have influenced countless artists over generations. The instruction delves into the convergence of academic fundamentals from Ecole de Beaux-Arts, such as classical draftsmanship, anatomy, and composition, with Celia’s unique approach to freeing, guiding, and harmonizing both mind and hand. As students learn to navigate and interpret form, they will honor the subject’s energetic essence while also considering formal harmony and compositional flow.
